"Wireless technology contractors with good experience can currently earn around 500 a day, which is similar to senior programme and project managers."

Business analysts and wireless specialists are set to be the first IT professionals to reap the rewards of an economic recovery.

Certification Magazine recently released the results of their 2006 Salary Survey. Nearly 35,000 IT professionals participated in the survey. The average annual salary for an IT professional holding the foundation level
CWNA Wireless LAN Administration certification was just over $70,000.

Specialty certifications, such as those in the field of IT security, were found to offer greater rewards and better long term prospects. The CWSP Wireless LAN Security certification falls into this category, as wireless security continues to grow in importance to organizations.

Among the more interesting findings of the survey, respondents say:

  • 86% feel strongly that certification gives them better skills.
  • 57% that received a promotion feel certification was a significant factor in earning the promotion.
  • 48% have employers who pay for their certifications.
  • 83% plan to add more certifications in the coming year.
  • 30% received a new position in their company or with a new employer after certifying their skills.
