Why this LTE Interworking course?
This unique 2 day course from Lever Technology explores the standardisation work that has been achieved by 3GPP towards making the new core network for LTE - the SAE (Systems Architecture Evolution), the core network for all wireless access networks. This common core allows both vertical and horizontal handovers (handovers between wireless technologies) during a communication session or call. Such handovers require interworking between technologies which is the topic of this course. The end goal of interworking would be a converged mobile network where a user's device hands over from technology to technology as the user moves, the terminal selecting the best network in terms of cost and performance for the current application. The specifications are aimed at LTE/WLAN interworking but may be extensible to other technologies. In particular, the WiMAX Forum have looked at this area from their viewpoint and have specified a strategy and interfaces to the 3GPP core for WiMAX.
