WLAN TrainingWLAN training - in IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs, 802.11b (Wi-Fi), 802.11a, 802.11g, 802.11i and more - from the UK's leading independent WLAN training company, LEVER Technology Group PLC. |

What is a WLAN?The term WLAN (Wireless LAN) is used to describe a Local Area Network that operates using a radio link instead of wires. The most popular type of WLAN is defined by the IEEE 802.11 series recommendations. Also known as Wi-Fi or "wifi" (Wireless Fidelity) - a trademark of the Wi-Fi Alliance - the three main standards are IEEE 802.11b, 802.11a and 802.11g. Other examples of WLANs include HiperLAN and HiperLAN/2 from the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI). After several years in development, HiperLAN is still not available in product form. However ETSI and the IEEE are working to unify HiperLAN/2 and IEEE 802.11a into a common WLAN standard. The working project is currently known as the 5GHz Unified Protocol (5UP). Public WLANs, also known as "hot spots", are being rolled out in airports, railway stations, hotels, coffee shops and many more public places. The hotspot provider or "Wireless ISP" provides access the Internet or company Intranet networks, often through a Virtual Private Network (VPN). Wireless LANs contrast with Wireless WANs (Wireless Wide Area Networks), such as GPRS and UMTS, in terms of licensing, range, data rates, protocols and costs. |
WLAN Consultancy
WLAN design, implementation, security and training is LEVER's core business. As the UK's leading company for Wireless network training, we cover more subjects, in more depth, than anyone else in the UK.

Vendor neutral WLAN trainingVery importantly, LEVER's WLAN training is vendor-neutral. This allows you to receive training on products from a wide range of vendors, including 3Com, AirDefense IDS, AirMagnet, Agere, Buffalo Networks, Cisco Aironet, Colubris Networks, Dell, D-Link, Fortress Technologies, IBM, Intel (Centrino), Intermec, Linksys, Netgear, Proxim, Orinoco, Snap Gear, SMC, Symbol Technologies, WildPackets (AiroPeek NX) and more, all in one course. With many different solutions now available to secure communication over WLANs, most organisations are now evaluating or deploying 802.11a/b/g wireless LANs for data and voice applications.
Wireless Voice over IPThe latest development in voice systems - Voice over WLAN (VoWLAN) - is taking off. Voice over WLAN systems combine the benefits of wireless networking with "Unification" or "Convergence". Voice over WLAN systems reduce ownership costs by using the WLAN for both data and voice; by allowing voice and data to share common local or wide area networks; and through the use of software-based voice switching (implemented by SoftSwitches) in place of legacy PBX systems.LEVER's experience in Wireless Voice over IP solutions is based on several years' experience in H.232 and SIP VoIP solutions, working with Europe's largest Telcos and also with Government agencies. Wireless Telecoms TrainingOur broad range of wireless, mobile, radio and telecoms training courses include ATM, SDH, WDM, DSL, Frame Relay, ISDN, SS7; LAN, WAN, Gigabit Ethernet; IPv4, IPv6, voice over IP, mobile IP and Cisco training. Our wireless and telecoms training clients include Government defence agencies, satellite operators, the major Telcos, major cable companies, Mobile network operators, Wireless ISPs, Times 100 companies and the Military.
